1. Protect the gateway and remote users with firewall(s)
2. Stop using unnecessary services running on servers
3. Install antivirus and antispam software and keep them up-to-date
4. Keep your operating system up-to-date.
5. Stay up-to-date with security patches
6. Regularly make a backup of your (important) data.
7. Don't answer or forward unsolicited e-mail - delete it immediately
8. Use a password that contains alphanumeric characters and include punctuation, where supported by the operating system.
9. Set the G.P.O (Group Policy Object) on server to control user's behavior of your network.
10. Do not allow employees to install their own software, set client as “restricted user” on Windows OS.
11. Use content filtering (SMTP, FTP and HTTP) software to avoid unsolicited / unwanted mail and  block inappropriate websites.
